Four teams from the University of Limerick competed in the inter-varsity French debating competition in Trinity College Dublin this weekend, 17-18 February 2017.

UL student Dearbhla Hennessy won the prestigious prize of best speaker. The teams were organised by the French section of the School of Modern Languages and Applied Linguistics, and included third year Applied Languages students Laura Reidy, Jason Gavin, Roisin Houston, Roisin Leo, Brajan Mazurkiewicz and Elizabeth Murphy, and first year students Dearbhla Hennessy and Majella Divilly.

They competed against Queens Belfast, UCC, UCD, TCD, NUI Galway and one of our teams went to the grand final: Brajan Mazurkiewitz and Elizabeth Murphy. The UL teams competed very bravely and were very eloquent. Even though they didn’t win, they did extremely well against the 2 winning teams that included two native Erasmus students for UCD and one PHD student for Queens.

Congratulations to all!
